In the history of the Fairfield County Football Officials Association, few have had longer or more successful careers than Joseph Fiordelisi. For 44 years, he has worked hundreds of contests at all levels and distinguished himself as a person who works well on the field and in the operation of his organization. A graduate of Stamford (now Trinity) Catholic High School, Stamford, Fiordelisi played football, basketball and baseball in the era of the three-sport athlete. He was named a Sporting News All-American in 1961. He then attended the University of Dayton and Bridgeport University, playing football at both schools. He received an A.S. Degree from Bridgeport. He played some semi-pro ball for the Milford Rockets before a knee injury cut short his career and then joined the FCFOA. During his time Fiordelisi has been a member of the Better Officiating, Nominating and Banquet committees. In his long career he has worked 22 FCIAC playoff assignments, one Southwest Conference Championship, three prep school championship, and 15 state playoff assignments. His work with youth has been cited with awards from the Stamford and Greenwich Pop Warner leagues, and awards from the Darien and Greenwich middle schools. In talking about his work on the field, Joe Fiordelisi was quick to point out the work of his crewmates in his success. "During my career, my (crew) or I were put on games that were important toward the playoffs, either in the FCIAC or state," he said. Professionally, he worked as an insurance investigator before working in sales for two major liquor companies before his retirement.
